Reviving Maungaturoto's Market
The Maungaturoto monthly market now has a cosy, boutique atmosphere at Simply Herbal Health.
The Maungaturoto monthly market is back on track, on the first Friday of the month at a new venue — Simply Herbal Health, 145 Hurndall St.
“Terri Donaldson is still involved with organising the event, and we have scaled down the market size and hold it inside the shop. That has given it a comfortable, cosy, boutique atmosphere,” says organiser Janette Allen.
“It was very well attended, and people loved the venue. Products such as fresh artisan bread and baking, organic vegetables, olive oil with tastings, natural skincare, soaps and balms were on offer. We had locally grown plants, artwork, beautiful native carvings, locally made jewellery, herbal teas and dandelion coffee, mini Indian head massage sessions and reflexology. We are looking forward to offering more products and services such as reiki, sound/energy massage and hopefully, hot food.”
Simply Herbal Health has a large focus on supporting local and stock products from Maungaturoto and the Kaipara region as well as Northland.
“We are big on community and holding the market at our store enables craftspeople, gardeners, bakers and sellers from the region to offer their goods to the locals. One of the biggest gains from contributing to, selling at and buying from a local market, is the chance to meet your neighbours and support them financially. They rely on this trade for their income, and we encourage rural communities to shop and support local people with their spending dollars. It helps pay school and sports fees and keeps our local communities afloat. It’s neighbours supporting neighbours.
“The Maungaturoto Market will continue to be held at Simply Herbal Health on the first Friday of the month from 3–7pm.”
